Eugene H. Krabs

Eugene H. Krabs

A crab that is in charge of the Krusty Krab restaurant, where SpongeBob works. He is addicted to money and being selfish and greedy.

About Him...

Mr. Krabs, born Eugene H. Krabs on November 30, 1942, was the son of Betsy Krabs and an unknown father. He is a descendant of the medieval King, King Krabs. Ever since medieval times (despite the fact there were no American medieval villages), his family has kept a secret recipe for the secret sauce of the family burger- the Krabby Patty. Later in life, Krabs would go into business selling these. In his childhood, times were rough and Mr. Krabs and his family were poor. Mr. Krabs' mother had to sew rags for clothes. Their neighbor, Old Man Jenkins, of whom Mr. Krabs thought as family, helped them through rough times.

Sheldon J. Plankton, born on the same day as Krabs, was his best friend from birth. While at the carnival, Mr. Krabs was amazed at a penny he found, when Plankton told him all about money. Since then, Eugene H. Krabs has always been a penny-pinching financial genius, like he is in the present day. In the episode "My Pretty Seahorse", Mr. Krabs told SpongeBob of a story about his father giving him a dollar at the age of five years old. He recalls that he loved that dollar; however, he spent it on a soda, one hot day at the beach.

Because of his family's poverty, Krabs was teased at Poseidon Elementary School, where Plankton was his only friend. The only place to get a burger in Bikini Bottom, was Stinky Burger, which was owned by a wealthy citizen, Stinky. Krabs and Plankton wanted to get a burger there but Stinky did not like them hanging around his restaurant. After seeing Stinky's wealth, this inspired Krabs and Plankton to create their own burger. When they finally completed it, no one was around to buy it. Upon seeing Old Man Jenkins there, he was the first to try the "Plabs burger." However, the burger was contaminated and Jenkins died. This caused Plankton and Krabs to argue about the burger. Plankton attempted to steal the formula, which ripped in half. Plankton took their burger batch and decided to go into business alone. A shelf in their dump restaurant collapsed, which combined certain ingredients together to form a perfect burger batch. Both Plankton and Krabs attempted to sell their separate creations separately, where only Krabs succeeded. Since the recipe is said to be an old Krabs family recipe, Mr. Krabs' accidental recipe for a burger patty combined with his family's secret sauce. This leads Mr. Krabs to start a business which lead his family out of poverty. Mr. Krabs and his family lived in a pink house where Betsy Krabs lives in the present and his bed and toys are still there.

Krabs sometimes identifies himself as a sailor, most likely because he did serve in the Navy at one point. In "Shell of a Man", the Navy was where he earned the nickname "Armor Abs Krabs". During his service, he was the chief janitor on the S.S. Gourmet and "head chef" on the "S.S. Diarrhea". In "The Krusty Sponge", it is hinted that Krabs had seen combat in his service when he tells Squidward about how he was frozen in fear during battle. Sometimes when he appears onscreen, sailor's music is played; Krabs uses sea-faring vocabulary; he calls his staff his 'crew', and the disagreement as 'mutiny', calls the bathroom the head while his laugh is also appropriate ('Ar 'ar 'ar 'ar 'ar'). In contrast to his namesake, Krabs is something of a miser; he is known to go insane if he has to give up so much as a penny. In "Born Again Krabs", he gave SpongeBob up to the Flying Dutchman for sixty-two cents, but repented later. When customers leave the restaurant because they do not like the food (which is usually due to SpongeBob or Squidward's inaccuracies), he uses catchphrases - these include "That's me money walkin' out the door!", or "There's gonna be a few changes around here!" However, he is often somewhat short-sighted---for example, selling Spongebob for a handful of change, despite him being one of the best fry cooks in the world, which in the long run would not be a good business deal. Despite his hatred of spending money, he also apparently collects a large amount of useless knickknacks at the house. He has also shown a penchant for sentimentally holding onto to certain objects that are meaningful to him, particularly bits of money---such as his first dollar, millionth dollar, first dime, and "nickel buddy." Mr Krabs once wished he could talk to money in the episode "Money Talks". But when his wish was granted, he should've thought a second time. He changed the Krusty Krab into the Krusty Sponge once, In "Krusty Towers", he built a hotel with the episode title.

However, he's a caring and thoughtful crab; he appreciates his employees, SpongeBob SquarePants and Squidward Tentacles (who help keep his restaurant afloat), dotes on his daughter, Pearl Krabs, and in one episode, he found his second love (after money), Mrs. Puff (in "Krusty Love"). Mr. Krabs' arch-rival and somewhat friend is Sheldon J. Plankton, the owner of rival restaurant The Chum Bucket across the street from his establishment. He has a mother, Mama Krabs, who lives in a near identical version of his anchor home, except it is pink. His address was also revealed to be 3541 Anchor Way. Krabs served in the Navy, where he earned the nickname "Armor Abs Krabs". Mr. Krabs tries to keep it cheap when purchasing anything, even though he's the richest crab in the ocean, which often results in Pearl becoming extremely disappointed in her gifts, such as on her 16th birthday or the infamous Squeaky Boots. Mr. Krabs also owns a pet worm named "Mr. Doodles" as seen in the episode "As Seen On TV". It is also shown in the episode "Mid-Life Crustacean" that he can extend his arms to great distances to collect items. Mr Krabs also sees himself as an amateur Errol Finn and appears to be an expert swordsman in the episode "One Krab's Trash" when he fought of the entire army of the undead using a skeleton swordfish head to retrieve a hat he was offered a million dollars for. In "Hooky" it is revealed that he can smell laziness for up to 10,000 leagues, more than double the distance previously assumed. Krabs also owes his soul to many people, including Spongebob (he was $5 short on pay day).

Sandy Cheeks

Sandy Cheeks

A clever Texas squirrel that has to wear an oxygen tank to breathe underwater.

About Her...

Sandy is
a squirrel from Texas who lives in a special treedome near Bikini Bottom. Her debut episode was Tea at the Treedome.

Over the course of the series, Sandy is shown to be something of an adrenaline addict and highly competitive. She is frequently shown practicing Karate with SpongeBob in the episodes Karate Choppers and No Weenies Allowed and in the song in Party Pooper Pants, dreams of skydiving in Sleepy T
ime and practices several extreme sports, as shown in Pre-Hibernation Week.

However, despite her interest in extreme sports, Sandy is also shown to be an intellectual. In Sandy's Rocket, Chimps Ahoy, and Patrick Smartpants, Sandy is shown solving mathematical or scientific problems, as well as being an inventor for her monkey bosses.

SpongeBob is certainly in love with Sandy as in several episodes he has been seen to be jealous of other creatures - particularly Larry the Lobster - when Sandy seems to be doing activities with Larry. Howev
er, the creators of SpongeBob SquarePants claim SpongeBob to be asexual.

Sandy finds SpongeBob to be a mishap as evidenced in Sandy's Rocket. She is annoyed by him in a similar way that Squidward is annoyed by SpongeBob. She gets angry at him often. In The Great Snail Race she kicks SpongeBob's butt for saying stuff behind her back. In Ripped Pants she leaves him to play with Larry.

Patrick Star

Patrick Star

SpongeBob's best friend, a dumb, pink starfish.

About Him...

Patrick is a pink starfish and SpongeBob's best friend. He and SpongeBob have apparently known each other since infancy, and they share many interests (jellyfishing, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, bubble blowing, etc.) It is revealed in the episode "Rule of Dumb" that he and Spongebob's pet snail, Gary, are cousins.

Patrick is very unintelligent. He often convinces SpongeBob to accompany him in dangerous or fruitless activities, such as playing near fish hooks and eating whole pumpkins. In spite of the disastrous outcomes of Patrick's ideas, SpongeBob constantly attests to Patrick's genius, and consults the starfish for advice and guidance.

Patrick has no job or trade and spends most of his time sleeping or playing with SpongeBob. When he tries to find work, it is shown that he has little practical skill--the episode "Big Pink Loser" reveals that he struggles with tasks such as sweeping or opening a jar. Despite these shortcomings, he has very high aspirations for his life--SpongeBob once convinced him that some of his aims (multi-dimensional hero ["I want to defeat the giant monkey-men and save the 9th dimension"], doctor, and fireman) were too high, given his faculties. Patrick, has, however, shown useful supernatural abilities, such as Telekinesis, reality warping, flight and super strength, though these can be downplayed depending on the episode. His psychic powers, however, seem to be a family trait, as Gary the Snail also displays psychic ability.

Patrick's manner is very childlike, though, like SpongeBob, he prides himself on his self-proclaimed "manliness". Like his friend, he enjoys things that are considered "babyish", such as large lollipops and homemade cookies. Though Patrick is generally kind and friendly, he will, when provoked, go into rages, generally screaming his demands and--occasionally--attacking those around him. Patrick does not know his own strength, and it is possible for him to lay waste to a large area in these rages.

It is also possible that Patrick has gotten so stupid by playing too many video games, as hinted in Naughty Nautical Neighbors that when he saves Squidward's life that he says "I win!".

Patrick's House

Patrick lives under a large boulder with a hinge on its side, two doors down from SpongeBob. SpongeBob and Patrick both live on Conch Street. Many episodes depict it as a simple rock with Patrick sleeping on its underside. Others depict a living quarters under the rock, complete with furniture and appliances made of sand, though the size of the living quarters varies depending upon the episode; it is at times a bedroom and at others, a living room. Home Sweet Pineapple shows Patrick using the rock as a large blanket, with him sleeping on the sea floor.

Spongebob Squarepants

Spongebob Squarepants

A very friendly and funny sponge that loves jelly fishing. He works at the Krusty Krab as the fry-cook.

About Him...

SpongeBob is marked for his cheerful nature. He is kind almost to a fault, and tries his hardest to make friends with those around him. Though he is generally innocuous, his zealousness in performing many tasks can cause major problems; when SpongeBob puts his mind to a job, he will stick to it almost religiously, and go to extreme lengths to accomplish it.

SpongeBob is said to be an adult, but he has a very childlike manner--he is not ashamed to enjoy things generally associated with younger children, such as cartoons and homemade cookies. He is not good at discerning sarcasm from sincerity, and, at times, is very literal-minded, which can lead to disaster for those around him. Despite these traits, his lightweight appearance, and his lack of physical strength, SpongeBob considers himself very mature, and has attempted--and failed--to prove his "manliness" on many occasions.

SpongeBob has a career as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab restaurant. In spite of his meager salary (he once claimed that he is forced to pay his own boss) and the restaurant's poor working conditions, he is very proud of his trade. He is highly skilled at his job, and has won the Employee of the Month award hundreds of times. As such, he is highly favored by his boss, Mr. Krabs, with whom he has a twisted avuncular relationship; SpongeBob often follows Krabs's orders against his own better judgment.

SpongeBob's best friends are the dimwitted Patrick Star and the tomboyish Sandy Cheeks, whom he often attempts to best in fights and competitions. He has an awkward relationship with his neighbor Squidward Tentacles, who despises SpongeBob, though the sponge views him as very close friend and cannot be convinced otherwise. Squidward often receives the brunt of the consequences of SpongeBob's actions, often by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A recurring joke in the series reveals that SpongeBob is incapable of getting his driving license. He has attended Mrs. Puff's boating school for many years, and each year, manages to fail his driving test. SpongeBob attributes this to nervousness behind the wheel; despite knowing how to drive, he loses his composure when driving, often ending up in a car accident.

Bikini Bottom

SpongeBob SquarePants is a sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, while his squid neighbor Squidward Tentacles lives in an Easter Island head. SpongeBob's other neighbor and best friend is a pink starfish named Patrick Star, who lives under a rock. SpongeBob and Patrick live on either side of Squidward.

SpongeBob and his friends live in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Bikini Bottom is like a regular city with a downtown, suburbs, coastal areas, its own airport, bus system, and fair park. Stephen Hillenburg said once that Bikini Bottom was loosely based on Seattle, Washington. A good example of this statement is in the episode Pre-Hibernation Week. Sandy and SpongeBob were fighting on a tall structure called the Sea Needle, referring to the Space Needle, a tall structure in Seattle. Stephen has said that he wants to leave the location of Bikini Bottom to the imagination, claiming that the Baywatch scene was just a reference to his favorite show of all time.

SpongeBob's house-pet is a snail named Gary, whose "meow" is similar to a cat. Although Gary only speaks in a few episodes, the characters have shown an ability to understand him. In addition to this, underwater worms bark exactly like dogs, and are kept on chains. Jellyfish are the equivalent of bees; buzzing, stinging with poison (although it appears as an electric shock), and producing delicious "jelly", mocking the name "jellyfish", while still referring to a bee's honey. Fish act as the citizens of the community but, as a rule, are not important characters.

SpongeBob, who is absorbent, yellow, and porous, works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, a fast-food restaurant, with Squidward as the cashier. The Krusty Krab is owned by Eugene H. Krabs (Mr. Krabs). Sheldon J. Plankton (commonly referred to as "Plankton") is Mr. Krabs's arch enemy who owns a low-rank fast-food restaurant called The Chum Bucket across the street from the Krusty Krab. The Chum Bucket has almost never had a customer, and Plankton spends most of his time plotting to steal the recipe for Mr. Krabs's popular Krabby Patty burgers. Only in the movie does he succeed; the formula is never actually revealed to the audience. Plankton's computer wife, Karen, alternately helps him in his schemes or bickers with him.

Sandy Cheeks is another friend of SpongeBob. She is a squirrel that lives in an underwater dome in Bikini Bottom. She was sent there by her bosses, chimpanzees. Sandy has a Texas accent and is also from there. When not inside her tree-dome, she wears an astronaut-like suit. Sandy, just like a normal squirrel, hibernates once a year, as seen in a few episodes such as Prehibernation Week and Survival of the Idiots.

Instead of cars, the residents of Bikini Bottom drive boats. SpongeBob is still in boating school after failing the driving test over one million times. Once, during an episode set in a wilderness area, Patrick questions how a camp fire is possible on the lagoon bottom. As soon as the question is asked, the fire is immediately extinguished with a sizzle. A flurry of bubbles accompanies actions in many of the episodes to remind the viewer that the setting is underwater. Ironically, when there is a separate body of water underwater, such as a swimming pool or lagoon, a non-car boat must be used to cross it because both SpongeBob and Patrick cannot swim, they must be taught by Larry the Lobster.
